What is the mediator’s role?

The mediator does not make decisions or give the participants legal advice.  Their role is to help the parties come to a mutually satisfactory solution to their issues.

The mediator helps the parties look beyond their positions and instead focus them on the interests that could help them move forward to a positive outcome.

The mediator helps the parties talk in a constructive, forward-looking way that focuses on meeting the educational needs of the student.

The mediator is skilled in dealing with underlying emotional issues and helping the parties to increase trust and cooperation.
